In 2003 when the Predators were founded, the board made a decision that they wanted to show the kids that they could be awarded for working hard at school as well as playing football or cheerleading. To do this, the Predators created a Scholastic Excellence Award to be given to qualifying children at the End of Season Banquet each year. In 2004 the league adopted this program so Predator kids get awarded double.
- 90% average on the first report card of the current year
- 1st to 9th graders are eligible if on the Predator's current active roster
All marks are converted to a numerical value (i.e. 100 percent). If a report card does not have numeric grades the Predators have a conversion chart. For example an "E" = 100% and an "S" = 88%. +, / and – are not convertible and therefore don't qualify.
Subject Areas and Averaging
- Language Arts (English, Foreign Language, Reading, Writing, Grammar etc.)
- Math (Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, General Math, etc.)
- Social Studies (Social Studies, Civics, History, Geography, etc.)
- Social Sciences (General Science, Science, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, etc.)
- Humanity (Art, Music, Religion, Industrial Arts, Vocations Science, etc
Subjects NOT included are: Physical Education/Health, Behavior, Citizenship, Conduct grades, etc. If the student took more than one course in a subject area, average the grades. Example: English 92, French 83 and Reading 95 = 90. If course from 1 to 4 are not present on a report card in some fashion then that report card is ineligible.
A copy of a report card is required. No progress report or off the computer print out qualifies.
The league has an additional award that has monetary value that is in honor of a Predator child who lost his life in 2004.
